About Rebecca Samler
Photography is a wonderful new paintbrush in my old artist's toolbox. All my life I've been drawing and painting and arranging objects without really knowing why. I just knew it was something I had to do. My way of expressing my world to others perhaps. As for my trusty camera, it was just something I carried along to record family history. Then, one day not too long ago, I picked up my Canon on a whim and started recording the beautiful world all around me...looking for patterns and colors and slices of light...and found joy! When I discovered that my work could actually bring joy to someone else, the feeling was unbelievable.
I start with a simple, well composed image. I spend hours creatively editing each piece until it speaks to me. Then, I send it off into the world, hoping someone understands. The best part of being a fine art photographer is the moment when someone reacts emotionally to my work. It can be in the form of a wistful smile, or a hushed compliment, or a sweet story of some memory sparked. All music to my senses. I feel blessed to be able to follow this passion of mine. I hope I'll be able to spend the rest of my days turning these pictures in my head into real, live pieces of art that make people smile.
